Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

I know it's been said but....we know your father is a doctor and he doesn't like obamacare. She was going off today about how doctors don't get compensated enough. I dont know much about salaries but from what I read the average on the low end is $180,000. I do think that's a high salary. Whereas teachers Are paid around $45,000.  They are responsible for teaching the next generation of doctors etc. Doctors, specifically surgeons are responsible for keeping people alive and they deserve good compensation. There are more under payed fields to advocate for, not that that's what she was doing. Anyway I'm sorry for my rant, but sometimes she's just a little one minded and caught up in her own personal things and doesn't see the bigger picture. (Ex. She only talks about Trump and a tiny tiny amount about Hilary and the others are barely on her radar) I haven't even finished the show, I just had to share how I felt with you all.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

Surgeons are generally *THE* most well-compensated doctors in the medical field. She is absolutely insane. Her father is paid enough to own a 2.5 *million* dollar house on the water in Cohasset, so she can kindly shut the F up about how underpaid her father is. Jesus christ.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

Totally agree ladies! I work closely with physicians everyday, and I must say that the majority of the physicians I work with got into their profession to help people, not to get rich. I'm part of our hospital's Cancer Committee and at our last meeting, our lead surgeon literally said, "We make a good living and we have an obligation to give back to our community." (This was in reference to them donating their time to do monthly skin cancer screening clinics)

I used to work in L&D and there were several instances where our OB/GYNs would barter with our Amish patients (if they required emergent medical attention, usually they delivered at home) Often they would forgo their professional fees and be paid in furniture, a side of beef, or whatever that particular family's livelihood happened to be.

I hope that this topic is more a manifestation of Taylor's obsession with money, as opposed to her father's. Like you said, he's not struggling by any means. The fact that she blames the ACA is kinda comical, since she probably has no fucking clue why or how the ACA affects physician reimbursement. Again just regurgitating rhetoric she doesn't even understand.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

From things she's said, I believe her dad did get into his field to help others, and he has bartered treatment as well as donated. He seems like a great man. I don't think he got into for the money. My father-in-law, and most other doctors I know, got into the profession to help people. My FIL actually retired recently because he hated the electronic medical records system, and the time and personal interaction it took away from his patients. I actually think a lot of the money worship comes from Babette. Taylor always talks about how Babette's father was a general manager at Saks in a swanky area, and her family was not wealthy, but exposed to a lot of finer things because his job at Saks and their location. So my theory is Babette always aspired to more $$$ and passed those views onto Taylor. Also, Cohasset is a lot of old, big money, and hegdefund peeps, and the Strecker's are small potatoes there, so Taylor was always exposed to other people having a lot more money as well.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

I was disgusted then she said that she is actively trying to dissuade her brother, who feels a calling to help people, from going into medicine, because it won't make him rich. Clearly Zach has values that are not all about $

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

Who is taylor hanging around that says Drs are only in it for the money or they get paid enough?

A few of my friends are premed and I don't think I've ever heard them talk about getting into the medical field for money...... One of my friends in her words says this all the time "I just want to come up with great research and save lives." lol

I've always thought Babette is the one pushing the social climbing and money focus too.  Tay always says her mom stressed meeting a guy from Cornell when she was in college.  I think she rushed into her marriage because she really just wanted to have a wedding and B's family was well off.

Didn't she say she had had doubts before the wedding, her Mom said it would all be ok and they fought about it? I may be totally imagining that!

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

Tay didn't say doctors are in it for the $. She said they do it to help people, but that they are not compensated adequately for all the school and stress that they put themselves through.

She herself did not say those are her beliefs....she said people say that to her that doctors are in it for the money and that's when she gets her back up.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

I give her that, she did actually mention helping people yesterday. For the record, these days most physicians post-residency negotiate their contracts when they get a job to have some or all of their student loans paid. My hospital does that all the time, like we'll pay your loans, you have to stay here for 5 yrs. it's a benefit to attract them to our rural community.

I would beg her to think of all the other professions who do similarly important jobs and get paid a tiny fraction of physicians. Teachers, cops, military, etc. I' don't mean at all to diminish the importance or value of physicians, they do difficult live saving work, but they're not living paycheck to paycheck ya know?

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

Some doctors in particular fields are not compensated adequately, generally Primary Care/Family Medicine, and Pediatrics, compared to the amount of work they do. Most others are more than adequately compensated, in my opinion.

I agree with you completely. I was thinking the same thing. In no way diminishing the work of doctors or stress of Med school, but they aren't the only ones. Other people pay a lot for school and have stressful programs. I personally have a really large amount of student loans and I'm not even done with my masters yet, to become a teacher. So I feel that there are plenty of careers that are more underpayed than doctors. They do great work and deserve a good salary, but there are professions that deserve more as well and get paid a great deal less. As you said though I do not mean to take anything away from the great work of doctors.

For the love of God! Stop talking about your "perfect tits". I almost just vommed listening to the beginning of the Joey Fatone episode. She always tries too hard when male guests come in. Just be normal! It's so obvious.

(I'm a few days behind, listening to last Thursday with Carin) If Tay takes anything away from this thread I honestly hope it's that she needs to STOP EATING ON AIR. I seriously can't handle it anymore.

catching up on last weeks show, thursdays 3rd hour, talking about Dr's and compensations.  First, NURSES are the most underpaid and over worked, not Drs.  #sorrynotsorry

I realize this is probably super nit-picky, but her over-emphasis on the letter P for words ending in P. It's always annoyed me but for some reason it's been extra grating lately. 😬

Kills me when she says "pope"!!!  She was on a roll a few months back about the Pope and it almost did me in.  She likes to say "nope" a lot too.  I swear she turns it into 3 syllables.

Lots of people (Americans) are afraid of lots of stuff because of the propaganda on television. So, you it's hard for me to judge people on that. We are consistently fed stereotypical information about other places in the world and about the US in general. Imagine if you lived in a town with no diversity and the only images you saw of other people came form the news, movies, and television? Most people would be afraid in a situation when they actually encountered other people.  I have a friend form Ethiopia. Before meeting him the only depictions I had of Africa are the images we're fed on tv and his life is nothing like that. It took being faced with the truth to realize the media often focuses on little tidbits.

Re: Topics you never want to hear mentioned again

If they insist on continuing Fat Kid Friday, maybe Tay could try to swallow the food before talking and try not to smack the food so loud into the mic! We don't have to hear every bite. And silence while she's chewing would be better than hearing her smack and talk with a full mouth of food. I can't take it anymore.
