So I know this topic is being discussed it the "Today's Show" thread...but I wanted to have a separate place to voice my opinion on Taylor and Kenny's view of what is going on here.
I am hurt at the idea that they look at this site as a bunch of trolls. Trolls are people who post deliberately provocative messages with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument. They stir shit up. They insult. They poke. They cause chaos in whatever medium of the internet they are using.
I listened to a This American Life podcast a few weeks ago about internet trolls (you can listen here, it is fascinating: ) A woman, a relatively famous writer, named Lindy West got a tweet from an account from her dead dad insulting her. Someone had created a twitter account of her dead dad, found a picture of him online, and was tweeting awful things to her. THAT is a troll. It's cruel, and apathetic, and downright mean.
I come to this forum to complain, bitch, discuss, speculate, and comment on a show that I pretty much listen to every single day driving to and from work. I definitely fall into the "Howard Stern Complex" that haters listen more than fans, because Taylor drives me absolutely insane. But to call us trolls is just wrong. We're not personally attacking anyone. And anytime someone HAS, it quickly gets shut down by others.
I can understand Taylor and Kenny feeling like there is power with the anonymity here, and I suppose there is. But just because we're hiding behind usernames (that are ALL show references) doesn't make us trolls. It makes us fans. Fans don't have to gush and fawn. Fans complain and speculate and gossip.
And I'm not a troll because I do.

I loved that TAL, and I agree with what you're saying 100%. And it's also an easy, lazy way to get a laugh to imply that we're all disgusting looking because we don't like things they may do.

I listen every day and have since it started. I'm a FAN not a troll. But lately, I find myself drifting to other shows because there are some pretty good options out there and frankly, the show bores me a lot of the time. The only reason I post on here is in the hopes that someone from the show does check here and takes their ego out of the equation and actually hear what the FANS think. (I must admit, the cyber sleuthing of Tay and Kenny's personal life does strike me as a little trollish and I think we are better than that!) We want you to succeed, Taylor. We like listening and want to share our mornings with you.
Please expand your repertoire, get better guests (and listen more than talk!), let us into the "single gal in the city" life a little and get some new and deeper life experiences to draw upon. You're a 30-something woman. We don't care about your high school boyfriend.

I agree that 99% of the users here are not trolls. There's one or two that I've really questioned but for the most part, no, not trolls. But I do think they did say two things in their conversation about this site that were dead on.
1) Kenny mentioned the word authoritative. I agree with that. Some of the posts here do come off as extremely authoritative. Kind of like "we are the listeners. We know best. Change your show". And this site does NOT represent the majority of the listeners. This is a very small pocket and that's important to remember. It doesn't mean your opinions aren't valid, but it also doesn't mean they're going to just conform to everything that's suggested here. It's still their show. They have to put out a show they want to do.
2) Taylor mentioned that this forum is primarily negative. And I know people struggle with that notion, but it is! Sure, much of it can be seen as constructive criticism, but constructive criticism is supposed to be mixed in with positive things as well. There's not often discussion here about show topics. Or even OT stuff. Occasionally, but they never last long. The threads that keep going are the negative ones. Many times people pop on to complain. It's not often someone comes on to say "wow, I loved xyz today". Yes, it happens on occasion. But it's not the norm. And just like Taylor said, that is not a forum. A forum is a place for open discussion. Good and bad. And just like people complain that the Facebook page is all positivity and you get jumped on for being negative, it's true that this place is the opposite. I've been jumped on several times for trying to be positive. I was even told once that my mindset was not widely accepted around here and that I should stick to facebook. I don't believe everything needs to be positive. I roll my eyes at Taylor PLENTY. I've said negative things here, too. But there's no balance. The show still has yet to find a place that truly is a "forum" for everyone. If you ever look at the page views this site has vs active users, it's very obvious people come to rubber neck and watch the wreck. I think if things didnt come off as so hostile, this could have been the forum this show has needed for so long. It's all about perception and no matter what the intentions are, this site is perceived as a bunch of people who have nothing nice to say because the negative overwhelms the small amount of positive. Too much of either, positive or negative, is not a good thing.

You make several good points Chicken. I stand by my prior statement they could use this board as a tool to gauge their audience, at least this small percentage. However, this wasn't started as a site for feedback necessarily. It was created for the listeners to continue the conversation from the show because I feel like most of us don't get to listen live. T&K have their show as a platform to express their thoughts and opinions, the listeners have this forum. Many times we are posting when we are having a visceral reaction to something that was said, and I think that's why it might come across as more harsh or negative than it actually would seem if we were able to interact or debate with them in real time. Regardless, it is what it is, and I suppose they don't have to like it or us.

If that forum were at all palatable, it would be way more populated. No one likes using a clunky forum. No one.

Taylor and Kenny have opinions. I'm sure people in their lives express concern if they read stuff on here. Some of the stuff that was swirling before she announced her divorce was downright creepy. The info about where she lived with pictures. The stuff about Brett's sisters. If I was a friend or relative of either I would be beyond creeped out.
People in the media know everyone doesn't love them. Ordinary people can't be upset when the people they talk about, talk about them.

I totally agree with this. They absolutely can and should talk about their fans gossiping about them. My issue is with the calling of this group a bunch of trolls. In this day and age, that's kind of a strong word to label a group of fans. Like I said in the original post, trolls are people who stir shit up, intentionally do or say things in order to hurt or get a rise out of a person or people. That's not what's happening here. This board can be creepy, gossipy, negative, whatever. That doesn't make us trolls.

This discussion is exactly why kids shouldn't get ribbons for participating and are taught that just because someone has a different opinion/strong opinion about something, DOES NOT MAKE THEM A BULLY

I do think trying to find out where they live borders on stalking. It's a little odd that she doesn't want to give up names of clubs she goes to...I feel like she thinks she's going to be like Lady Gaga or Taylor Swiff and need protection? It's NYC...I've run Into a few celebs (legit) & they're left alone. That said, she also said don't stare & creep her out. Walk up to her & say hello. I don't think the majority of those on these pages are trolls. There's always one or two

To people suggesting some of posts on here and reddit were either stalker-ish and/or creepy... All that info was found on the Internet. Whether real estate info or photos, it was ALL accessible to the public.

So we are no longer the pink page... Now we are grey! LOL! Grey trolls!

just wanted to freshen it up a little!!

I get that all that info is "accessible" you can find anyone/thing you want. But, if someone posted your address, etc wouldn't you be a bit uneasy? She is a "celebrity" per se, but I always felt there are certain boundries. That's all IMHO w

I agree with what you are saying, but all those things were so long ago. and it was kinda agreed that those links would no longer be shared, etc. I think something else, more recent, on the page got under their skin.

How can you fault a group of fans for forming their own community when they have been trying to interact with you for YEARS and it's a one way street? They keep saying they have this new page and forum and yet, there is zero feedback from show. Think what you will about Steph, but the girl made you feel noticed on social media.

You hit the nail on the head, girl! That is exactly what I've been trying to say, but you've articulated it beautifully!! 😉💗

Seriously! you aren't Howard Stern, Tay. And actually, he would probably either not acknowledge it or just embrace it. Publicity is publicity.

Totally! We aren't trolls! I have never, and would never, leave a negative comment on their Instagram, or tweet them something sh!tty. We're fans!! We obviously all listen most of time and care enough to discuss the show! So, we aren't allowed to discuss the show/share our opinions on our own terms? I agree with everyone here who says that they could care less about interacting on social media. They should be proud that they have a few listeners who are motivated to discuss the show among themselves once it ends. And... shout out to myself for getting a Username mention on the show! ;)

Get it girl! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I had a long post about this somewhere too...I would never go on their personal social media or the WUWT FB page and shit all over them personally or their opinions, they have the right to those - and doing that would a troll make. I think it's fair game to leave a comment on the FB page if it is a legitimate question or concern about the show, but just to talk shit? No way. BUT- That is why we have this board, so we can discuss topics, their opinions, our opinions, our opinions of their opinions lol, etc., and I think a forum like this is a great solution for our group.

I finally listened to Friday's show. Did anyone else catch that when she was bashing this site and promoting their website forum and how she will interact on that one and not this one...she said "well, actually yesterday (Thursday) was the first time I sat down and read it." How long has their website been up?

Hello everyone! I am a frequent reader/occasional poster to this forum of FANS! I wanted to post today in response to Taylor & Kenny's insult of calling members of this FAN forum "trolls" and to comment on today's first hour.
First I will admit I lean more toward hate listening. Taylor just really grates on my last nerve BUT I commute for an hour at 6am east coast time when the majority of the other channels I listen to are replays. I pay Sirius to listen and do find entertainment in hate listening to WUWT. That doesn't mean I am not a fan. People hate listen to Howard and Dr. Laura as well. I am a segment of her audience that Taylor needs to find a way to embrace.
Today's show grabbed my attention as Taylor started it by questioning the appeal of Gwyneth Paltrow. I must say IMO everything Taylor said about GP that makes GP unappealing to Taylor is what I find unappealing about Taylor and why I don't understand fans who think she is so wonderful.
I find Taylor to be a snob and elitist (hello Pizza Periscope!) and highly annoying. It is perfectly OK for Taylor to say all that about GP but no fan of Taylor's had better say it about her. Any negative feedback leads to Taylor throwing insults. I found the first hour to be very hypocritical of Taylor.

I agree with everything you said 100%. Conversations like this are exactly why I don't like Taylor. I also commute a long way in the morning and flip stations the whole time. I really wish I could land on WUWT and listen the whole time, but she makes it impossible.

I concur with everything you said Bethos! LOL I still get fired up if I think about the pizza periscope! I found it funny how they said ON Friday that we were so authoritative in our comments (and we are at times!)....but then I listened to their ranting about sororities on my way to work this morning... Pretty strong opinions for a girl who was never in a sorority! Now, I don't have a dog in that fight, I wasn't in one, and don't really give a shit either way because I'm in my mid 30s so why would I...it just struck me as ironic that everything they're salty about (towards us) is just another day at the office for them😊
