New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

Please, dear God, let's give her some ideas...just in case ANYONE from Sirius reads this. Can we suggest just about ANYTHING for them to discuss besides Taylor hating sex, porn, and kids having to pay for college? Oh, and her parents being virgins (and her dad's a doctor)??
I'll go first:
1. Current movies
2. Trending topics from Twitter the night before (and/or that morning)
3. Reality show recaps
4. Kenny's Papa Can You Hear Me
5.

Dating - How to meet people, where to go, what to do, how to get out of an awful date.
Topics her and Kenny have opposite views on
Fun random guests. Seems to always be a celebrity from some show. I love the Jenny McCarthy always has really random people on. The penis costume woman, Worlds Smartest Neighbour, her Dad. Just some normal people that are an expert in something.
Fat Kid Friday - The way they used to be, so tired of this new ad space.

Definitely dating!!!
Addressing questions/issues from this board
Current pop culture - e.g. I would love for her to have watched the Bachelorette and then talk about it
Health and fitness (NOT getting skinny but getting healthy)

Ding da ding ding ding da ding da ding.

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

Movies she's seen
Restaurants in NYC
Fun things to do on the weekends (it's ok that we don't all live in NY, we visit!)
Have her friends in, like Jenny's BFF Friday
Authors and guests that TAYLOR and KENNY find interesting (not Sirius) - maybe they'll actually read the books first

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

I totally meant to post about this the other day and completely forgot- I listen to the Freakanomics podcast and last week's episode was about tipping at restaurants, and the guest was Danny Meyer. It was an awesome episode and they really did a deep dive into the issue and economics of running a restaurant, as well as the issue of how expensive culinary school is now that is become so trendy to be a chef but most graduates make very little money.

This ties in the "college" discussion that Taylor loves to have, and the tipping/Danny Meyer story they did- they should listen to it so the topic can be revisited in a more informed way.

Side note- I highly recommend the podcast! It sounds boring but it's actually really interesting and they explain things in terms even we basement dwellers can understand. 😊

I might be from the Sunshine State, but I can still be a little shady.🌴

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

I should also say that I really had no idea how the compensation scheme worked between the front and back of the house before I listened to this, so I wasn't adequately informed either. But I do think this is an interesting topic that is relevant in some way to most listeners. I know if always wondered why I have to tip more depending on what I order when it doesn't take any more effort to carry a plate with a lobster on it than a cheeseburger.

I agree! The guests on Jenny's show are great. I feel like Jenny is genuinely curious about how the world works and has diverse interests...it makes for interesting guests and good radio!

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

I think that's it for me, Jenny seems very genuine and curious with her guests. She tells a lot of her stories, but it doesn't come off as bragging and ties in with what the guest is talking about.

BFF Friday's is my favorite, I always feel like I'm sitting around with them lol

YES!! I'm in school getting a degree in dietetics, and just cringe whenever she talks about food. I constantly want to call in and set her straight when she does. I'd say they need to find an actual Registered Dietitian or RDN on their show... "nutritionists" can be total phonies and be easily certified on the internet. RD/RDNs actually have to be licensed.

PSA to you lovely ladies: Please don't listen to anything Taylor says about food. No nutrition advice should be taken from this show!

Great idea, SoftPretzels, this would be a FABULOUS weekly segment, like they do with Wider.... now I'm all fired up

When I read Secco's post, I literally had to check to make sure I didn't drunkenly write it lol, because I am in school to become an RD as well.  I loved Brains Over Body.  I felt like that was such a positive message about self-acceptance and trying to be healthy without beating yourself up.

I also have a master's in psych - so the emphasis of my education is psychosocial factors that affect our diet and health behaviors -  and beating yourself up or feeling unworthy is not the way to go about getting healthy.  It is just going to backfire in the long run.  Self-acceptance and gradual change are the best things you can do.

Maybe you two could start a thread on here for questions and such? Another board I'm on has one and it's awesome. There are a few professionals, most is just advice/ideas from regular people. I've been on that board close to 15 years now, and still one of the most active threads lol

GREAT IDEA! I started a sub-forum for a "ask me anything" style thread with our dietitians to direct us with our food and diet questions!

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

I would be okay with sharing my knowledge, though I want to make clear that I am not a registered dietitian yet.  I should be after August of 2017 if all goes as planned, and I definitely have health psychology knowledge.  We also should both get some kind of disclaimer that you need to verify with your doctor if it's a good idea.

I will be picking your brain shortly....

Also is that you in the profile picture?!?! You/she is beautiful

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

Hey Taylor, why no spend an hour a night and do research on the people you are interviewing. The fact that you don't know anything about the people you interview is ridiculous. Also you are not Howard stern so don't bring up sex or porn or masturbating to everyone that comes in.

You watch a lot of tv, why not talk about current shows and have recaps and discuss. Why not experiment with things and report back like a yoga class, Pilates, cooking class, art class, crossfit class, new diet, new product, you can try lots of stuff and report back. That would be interesting.

It is me.  Thank you, that is so flattering.  Keep in mind, it is my wedding picture (I got married in Sept), so it is definitely me looking at my best.

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

Fun there are 2 RDs to be on here!

I'm an RD and would be happy to participate in the AMA thread!

Are you guys applying for your DIs this year??

The Laurie Cole nutrition BS used to drive me nutty. I'd used to have to turn off the radio when she was on...

I still get pissed at her every time I eat a banana! Lol 😂😂😂

Re: New Topics for Taylor (besides SEX)!

The banana thing is unfounded.  Is Laurie Cole who she is getting this crap from?  I was wondering that... Doesn't really bother me too much.  I am used to people not really understanding with food.  It does get confusing and there are so many messages, but it's not exactly sound advice.

AnotherChicCocktail, you can be the star of the thread.  I will add if I can but feel bad since I am not registered.  I am starting my internship next year.  I got early admission to the school I currently attend, so no waiting through DICAS which is amazing!  So excited that there are more of us on here, though.

Ughhh, the banana debacle. WORST. I think her reasoning had something to do with how much sugar is in them. Yank me.

I'm in my first year of my dietetics program, so I'll start looking for internships next year probably :-D

I'm sure I'll make the RDs (and RDs to be!) cringe, but I'm doing Weight Watchers and they launched a new program a few months ago. Fruits and most vegetables are now "free" of points (but that doesn't mean you can go wild with them...). I always think of Laurie because somethings if I'm really starving I'll have 2 bananas a day (usually with a little PB2--dehydrated peanut butter that cuts some of the fat).

I've had a lot of success weight loss wise, I'm down 16 lbs since Feb 2 (which I love on one hand, but now I'm trying to add more calories of healthy foods to the mix because I'm dropping a little too fast). I try to track for a week in MyFitnessPal every once-in-awhile to make sure I'm keeping myself honest with my macro and micronutrients since WW takes those into account but doesn't show you if you've gotten enough of them. I laugh about the Laurie thing though, because I feel like her focus was on people remaining skinny, and I certainly haven't had a problem eating bananas and dropping pounds.

greattaste I'm particularly interested in hearing what you have to say! I've always been an emotional eater and thinking things like "I deserve this comfort food and then I'll be good again tomorrow/Monday/etc." WW has definitely been helping me think about food more logically as fuel, but also gives me room to still have indulgences. I go to therapy once a week (I call it my brain gym), and that's been helping me handle my emotions as well. I think a combination of a program plus therapy has allowed me to have much more success this time around than diet changes I've implemented before therapy!

I laughed because this reminded me of a conversation I had with my boss. We had a meeting about a potential client to brainstorm ideas for them and she said "how do you know so much about this client?" I said "because I prepared for this meeting?" and she said "it's good someone prepares for our meetings!"

She got all the side eye that day.
