Re: wachawachin

I remember maybe 5-6 years ago we were at Christmas dinner at my aunt's house. Somehow MJ came up and my mom made a comment about him being a pedo and everyone defended him. My mom got SO pissed. lol I texted her on Sunday and told her to watch the doc because it will validate her feelings.

Re: wachawachin

There were rumors for sooooo many years.... Pisses me off that all of it has been left buried for so long. I’m with you guys - stop glamorizing him. And don’t get me started on his skin transformation or nose. Ugh.

Re: wachawachin

Agree!!! The man was talented, but he was a freak- look how demented he looked in the last decade of his life. I believed he molested kids years ago when the first kids came out, but it's awful to hear how far he took it and how young Wade was when it started. Fucking horrific.

Life's a bitch...and so am I.

Re: wachawachin

Ok y’all I’m ready to get dragged for this opinion. I 100% agree with everyone, the doc was horrific. I absolutely believe the victims, it makes me sick that we all had such cognitive dissonance for so many years. However.... is it not possible to separate the celebrity/person from their art? I definitely have a sick pit in my stomach thinking of MJ the person, but I’m not giving up his music. It’s basically the soundtrack of my life. I fucking love his music. Am I a monster? Do we have to give up everything we love because the people behind the art turn out to be disgusting pieces of shit? Taylor mentioned this today. I’d love to ask her, after Boyd Tinsley #MeToo’d a young male musician, is she boycotting DMB? I realize these are different situations ((children vs adult) but the concept (non-consensual sex acts) is somewhat the same. For the record I’m not giving up DMB either.

Re: wachawachin

It’s definitely complicated and I’m not really sure what I think. I was never a big MJ fan so it isn’t something I’ve given a lot of thought to. I think maybe a happy compromise could be still listening to his music, but not actually contributing any more money to his estate. Or, this would never happen, but for example if his estate said from here on out all proceeds from MJ music will be donated to victim support groups then you could feel ok about it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Re: wachawachin

That makes me feel better, I was thinking the same since I already own the music I won’t be contributing financially going forward. Great idea about any revenue going forward being donated to victims! I doubt that will happen but I think it would be a great way for the family to acknowledge the situation in a meaningful way.

Re: wachawachin

I still haven't been able to form much of an opinion on this, but some more food for thought. Apparently a number of radio stations have now dropped MJ from their playlists. Which still doesn't totally help answer the question as to whether or not his music can still be enjoyed since the radio station would be profiting from his music which I think changes the answer somewhat.

I put this in the context of an artist I would miss- a fashion designer I've been collecting pieces of for years. If some damning news about that designer came out, I'm not sure I would suddenly look at those clothes and think they were hideous. 🤷🏼‍♀️

And for you R. Kelly fans, I heard on the news this morning that the real reason he's broke is because he doesn't own the master rights to any of his music, which apparently means he isn't collecting royalties. So bump & grind with a clear conscience if that's your jam.

Re: wachawachin

I haven't started it yet, how is it? I heard it's hard to get into until the 4th episode.

Re: wachawachin

I've read that a few times, I blew through the whole thing though. As is Netflix though, they go into a lot of detail, then all the big stuff comes out in the last episode with annoys me. I think it was good for the family though, it clears a lot of rumours up.
