Re: Mark Epstein

Holy cow - definitely Brett's dad.

Re: Mark Epstein

Just think of it, Taylor could have been that much closer to Bravo fame - Mr. E could be going to the same white-collar prison as Joe Guidice from RHONJ! 😮

Re: Mark Epstein

Maybe that's why she was kept in the dark regarding finances. When you do sketchy stuff you tend to want to keep it in the family.

Re: Mark Epstein

Good point Pio.

Do we think Taylor knows about this?

Re: Mark Epstein

If her and Brett are still on speaking terms, I would assume he gave her a heads up. I think this is in the same ball park as "I'm now dating a woman after being married to you!"

Re: Mark Epstein

I would assume she knows, because he was probably being investigated when they were still together and she's probably still friendly with some people in the same circles.

Haha true. But she's made some comments over the last couple of months that made me think things weren't so friendly anymore. A couple of co-hosts have said things about her still being cordial with her ex and she's replied with something like "well...I tried but not so much anymore." I figured B called her out on how she's STILL talking shit about his family and it didn't go well.

Haha I was thinking the same thing- we'll know if she starts making any of the thinly-veiled allusions she's so famous for about "someone she used to know" going to jail.

I'm sure he knew, because like how do you not know where your imports are coming from??

Re: Mark Epstein

I wonder if that was the downfall of the marriage. If they knew this was coming, and its so totally not the way she was brought up. Why she was so secretive about stuff?

Re: Mark Epstein

Friday I doubt she has that strong a moral compass. Nothing she has ever done/said in the past would give that impression. A friend of mine went through something similar, albeit smaller scale, with one of their parents and even the other spouse had no clue until law stepped in.

Re: Mark Epstein

Hypothetically if this was the last straw before the divorce I more picture it like Tay was telling B he can't continue with the family business because she couldn't be a part of that (probably bc she would accidentally blab on the radio) and she didn't want to see him In jail. And he was like, no this is mt family I have to stay in the biz.

Re: Mark Epstein

If it were last straw maybe but I doubt she knew about it.  Although it would explain the home going for sale. Honestly I think if she were still married and found out about it she would find ways to argue against the law as she normally does when it is to her benefit and how you should be allowed to compete in a free market and why can't you buy it cheaper from china without acknowledging the scheming behind it and price manipulation. She wouldn't want him to work elsewhere. Then he wouldn't make as much and afford that apartment and lifestyle she was attracted to. What they did was wrong, no doubt, but I think you're giving her more credit on this one. Maybe I'm giving too little. I also think it would be terrible to leave your husband for something his father did. I'm just happy it's not a choice I have to make.

Re: Mark Epstein

I doubt this had much, if anything, to do with the divorce because the case wasn't filed until May of 2016. I also don't think she would have left Brett over it for all the reasons everyone has said, and even if she had somehow caught wind of what they were up to I seriously doubt she would have been able to comprehend it. I realize it's not everyone's thing, but her level of financial illeteracy is astounding- I cringed so hard when she asked that guest who wrote the finance book for kids if "a bond is a bull or a bear."

Re: Mark Epstein

I don't believe this had anything to do with divorce. Obviously, money was a source of contention between her and Brett (she said do on show today) but I am positive that E fam kept her out of any business matters.

Re: Mark Epstein

I'm sure she had no idea. I'm positive brett would not have told her and she wouldn't understand it was illegal even if he did. I know I wouldn't really understand if it was told to me under the guise of using a new vendor or whatever. I guess Mr. E is as shady as she says he is....

I was thinking about that after, depending how it was explained (and if I really didn't care) I would have been like yep...makes sense!

Re: Mark Epstein

I feel like she had some knowledge about shady business dealings, because she always alluded to some dark family secret that if she spilled would expose their family in a major scandal.

Re: Mark Epstein

I just find it hard to believe that Taylor's knew anything about this. One, I don't think she wouldn't even understand it (I barely do). And two, they know that she is a blabber mouth. They would never let her in on something like this. Also, I doubt Brett knew the full extent. He always struck me as a pretty moral person. Just cause the dads kind of shady our cuts corners doesn't mean the whole family is like that.

Re: Mark Epstein

And I don't know (maybe y'all do) what side of the business brett is involved with. From the stories, sounds like more of a marketing/sales role. He may not have even known until it was an issue. And that may have been post divorce. No matter how bad Mark E is, I can't imagine you'd want your children involved in your shady shit.

Re: Mark Epstein

Regardless of whether she knew or not it's probably a good thing she got out when she did. This isn't good for the E family. Tay has mentioned how especially her father in law didn't like her, sounds like he was definitely shady and encouraged Brett to keep her in the dark about finances, but maybe for her own good...

Taylor discussed this without outright saying it this morning in the 9:00 hour after the 7 things.  She was so happy about it.

Yes! I'm listening to this part now while reading the board. She is very happy about this.

Not gonna lie... if I found out someone I disliked/hated experienced something terrible like this I would be pretty fucking delighted....I have about 2-3 people I genuinely hope bad things happen to..... so you go ahead and rejoice in this Tay!

Re: Mark Epstein

Yes, to an extent.  But she certainly enjoyed the fruits of those gains for quite a while too.  Sounds like (from what I gathered in that brief exchange) everyone kind of "wink wink, nod nod" knew what was happening.
