Documentary filming permits Austria

Hi everyone,

I am an indie filmmaker from the UK planning a documentary about Austrian architecture. We have a small crew but we need access to some historical buildings and museums. I've heard they can be very restrictive with film crews.

Does anyone know a local service producer who can open some doors for us? Need someone well-connected.

Austria protects its historical sites fiercely, so just walking in with a camera is a fast way to get kicked out lol. You absolutely need a production partner who has insurance and standing agreements with these venues. It makes the negotiations 10x faster.

If you need a solid film production company in Austria  take a look at ORBIS Production. They specialize in finding locations and handling the red tape for international crews. They know the managers at the major palaces and museums, which helps a lot.

Are you planning to bring your own sound guy or do you need to hire locally?

That is good advice, I didn't realize the insurance part was such a big deal for the venues.

We were thinking of flying our sound guy over, but if the budget gets tight we might look for local tech support too. I'll drop them a message to see if they can get us into the locations we want.
