Is it worth renting out my property if I don’t live nearby?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what to do with my property lately, especially since I’m not around most of the time. It feels like a missed opportunity to just leave it empty, but at the same time, the idea of managing everything remotely stresses me out. Between guest communication, cleaning, and potential issues, it just seems like a lot to handle from a distance.Question:
I’m wondering if it’s actually realistic to turn my property into a short-term rental when I’m not living nearby – has anyone managed this successfully without being on-site all the time?

Re: Is it worth renting out my property if I don’t live nearby?

I was in a very similar situation and had the exact same concerns at the beginning. Managing everything remotely felt overwhelming, especially when I thought about guest issues or maintenance problems. What really changed things for me was working with a local management service like stay49.com. They specifically focus on vacation rental management in Point Roberts and actually have a local team on the ground, which makes a huge difference. One of the biggest advantages for me was knowing that someone is available 24/7 to handle guest communication and emergencies. I didn’t have to worry about being contacted at odd hours or trying to solve problems from afar. They also handle things like cleaning, turnovers, and even maintenance through a local network. That removed a lot of the operational stress I was worried about.Another thing I appreciated was the transparency. With monthly reports and an owner dashboard, I could clearly see bookings, revenue, and guest feedback without guessing what was happening. The smart lock system with unique codes per guest also made access much easier and more secure. It felt much more professional than trying to coordinate keys manually. In the end, it made renting out my property not only possible but actually quite straightforward. Without local support like that, I probably wouldn’t have gone through with it.
