Ridiculous traditions

I read an article today about how Oregon may pass a law where drivers living in towns of less than 40,000 people would have to pump their own gas. Oregonians are outraged! Quote:

“I had to do it once in California visiting my brother and almost died doing it. This is a service only qualified people should perform...”

Im sitting at my desk actually lol-ing! 😂😂 I remember my sibling and I fighting to pump gas as kids and my parents just maxing and relaxing in the car. I’m from NY so there’s no one pumping our gas up here!

Who has a funny or ridiculous tradition in their city/town/village/state?

One thing I know people find odd about where I live (Upstate NY) is our love for raspberry Melba sauce on mozzarella sticks. Mmmmmmmm😍

I’ve always thought places where you don’t pump your own gas are super weird.

lol mozzarella sticks with raspberry sauce sounds awful, but I also have a thing about mixing fruit with savory food, so I’m sure it’s a me problem. 😂

I’m trying to think of a Jacksonville/FL quirk....maybe fully not knowing how to deal when it’s cold? The mayor legit shut the city down today because it’s in the low 40’s/high 30’s, and there’s a *small chance* there will be ice on the roads. And because we either don’t own or don’t feel like dragging our cold weather clothes out of storage, the Floridian winter uniform is shorts, flip flops and a sweatshirt.

I did my freshman year of college at Ohio Sate and literally wore flip flops in the snow.

Re: Ridiculous traditions

The town I live in is Volga German originally so there are lots of old traditions around here- we are known far and wide for holding a big Oktoberfest every year. But the weirdest thing is "rawburger". It's literally raw hamburger that is mixed with a bunch of spices and they eat it on crackers.  I have always refused to try it but it's huge around here, it's a big deal to make it and give it to people, especially at Christmas.

Are you from northern Kentucky?! My maw maw eats something called a cannible burger. 🤢🤢🤢.

We have drive through daiquiris where I’m from. As long as the draw hole is not punctured. You’re good to go while driving.

Re: Ridiculous traditions

I love Oregon...they pump your gas and charge you exactly what the item says it costs on the price tag. BONUS!

I got nothing fun to share that I can think of...I’ll have to ponder. Wake me if you smell something burning (my brain, from pondering....). 🤪

what about rocky mountain oysters?

raw burger meat sounds disgusting 🤭 apparently it’s a thing in paris too, but i refused to try it.

it’s not really “weird”, but Datil Peppers are in everything around here, and there are tons of local hot sauce companies that make sauce out of it.

I dated a guy from Pittsburgh and thought the French fry thing was so odd, but also totally loved it because I love French fries more than life itself. I think Pittsburgh wins for most awesome food weirdness.

Lol you are correct - UGH! I hate fries that still have the skin on them, including Wendy's fries. Five Guys fries are the worst though.

Oh girl, McD's french fries- I have porn type dreams about them.....I haven't been able to eat fast food french fries from anywhere in almost 5 years because of my food allergies. But sometimes I dream I am eating McD's fries, and I can actually still taste them in the dream, it's really weird. And the whole time I tell myself to stop eating them because I'm going to get sick but I can't- it's like those dreams when you are having sex with an ex or something; I know I should stop but I can't, LMAO!!! Not even kidding, I've had the dream several times over the last few years.

Omg, I think if I was on death row my last meal would seriously be just as many french fries as I could possibly fit into my body. And bacon.

OP, do you ever get the chance to go into Madison to eat? There are some restaurants that have GREAT fries. Like, literally the best in the world 🐷😍

When I started dating my now husband I had to break it to him potato and corn were not actual veggies. He still hasn’t quit recovered.

For those who haven't had it, find somewhere that sells poutine! Fries, cheese curds & gravy.....OMG.....some days its better then sex!!!

Hot salty fries from McDonalds are the best! My dream is to have a fry truck with tons of different toppings
