That conversation had me heated as well. Taylor commented on Kenny's paternity leave and said she couldn't understand why he was out so long. How hard would it have been for her to do that without Kenny? She's so uninformed and she has not one ounce of empathy in her. It's so frustrating to listen to!!
She took most of that month off!

Speaking of making money outside of the show... I was listening to one of the 7 Things recently when T was reporting on Jimmy Kimmel wanting to leave his show at the end of his contract. She went off on him because he has the cushiest job, only working for one hour at night while she is busting her ass, grinding it out in the hardest job there is...in the early (oh so early) morning hours for three whole hours every single day. Poor baby...busting her ass. I get that no job is easy but Taylor has zero perspective. 7:00 am is not early. Not knowing half the shit she talks about half the time and repeating every story she knows the rest of the time is not busting her ass; begging for Instagram followers on your birthday is not 'working hard'; sitting behind Stassi and complaining about it is not the way you get ahead. Time for a reality check, sweet pea.
I heard that part too - when she said something to the effect of "they don't know what it's like to have a real job like the rest of us" my eyes almost rolled out of my head. All I could think about was the conversations we've had on this board about how Taylor complains about work but doesn't know what it is to have a boring 9-5, hour+ commute, and whatever other crap 99% of the workforce deals with on a daily basis. Maybe not financially, but in terms of employment Taylor is a 1%-er and completely out of touch.
Also - if anyone wants to know just how hard Jimmy Kimmel works, listen to the last couple episodes of Adam Carolla's podcast. Adam and a team of writers helped Jimmy with the jokes for the Oscars, and they spent hours and hours over the last month preparing, in addition to his show and whatever else I'm sure he has going on right now. Today Adam talked about what it was like to be behind the scenes at the Oscars and it was really interesting.
Side note - I had no idea that accountants were somehow in charge of the awards at the Oscars. I'm still completely confused as to why, but I'm an accountant and want to know how I can get in on that gig, its way more exciting than what I usually do!

question from the uninformed, countries with really good maternity leave, do employers pay your salary or is it kind of like unemployment? also, what if the person who is replacing you for your year of leave in better? can they let you go?
Offline
If I remember correctly, I think your company pays a percentage of your salary for a specific time period, so kind of like unemployment here? I think part time people replace you during that time, and that you are guaranteed to keep your job for whatever the specified time period is (kind of like FMLA but better I'm sure) I could be totally wrong about all of this lol, but I think we discussed this topic a long time ago on here. I'm sure FKF or one of our other friends to the North can correct me!

She did!! She only worked 3 days a week and then complained that bc of her long weekends, she couldnt get into work mode to keep up with her blog weekly and whined that we needed a vacation. Yet every weekend she was somewhere.

Did Taylor ever talk about her birthday party? The one Carly said she couldn't go to? I'm interested to know more

I was really bothered by the conversation on Monday about puppy leave --> paternity leave. (I'm behind bc I listen on demand...) I don't know why Taylor had to mention paternity leave here, she has NO EMPATHY at all. For someone who is "so in touch" with her emotions, she really doesn't give a shit about anyone else's feelings or experience. Most companies don't offer any paternity leave anyway so it's a moot point, but it's a lot to deal with, a new baby by yourself, and I think having both parents available for any amount of time can make a huge impact to mom's (and therefore baby's) success, especially if at risk for PPD. Taylor is the most selfish. This really hit a nerve for me. I wish she would have just kept the conversation on puppy leave and how funny/silly the concept is. As soon as she pulls in actual parental leave, I've turned on her. Parental leave in this country is bullshit and can legitimately result in death when babies are left in daycare too young. It's so stressful and she is totally clueless. I was really glad to hear Carly defend new parents but I am HEATED.
I totally agree about her convo on parental leave! I'm not a parent but I know that system in this country is flawed. And just because a guy didn't give birth or doesn't breast feed does not mean that he cannot contribute. So she's basically saying the mother can stay home for a little while, but not the father? So a woman who just gave birth should have to stay alone the majority of the day taking care of the baby? Why not allow paternity leave so the other parent can help and also bond with the child!?! Then what does she think about adoption? No one gave birth so they shouldn't get leave? Or both parents shouldn't be home to help the child acclimate? She also made a comment on maternity leave being long(I think) if it benefits her she's all over it but since it doesn't she shits in it. If she and TD ever have children she will continuously go on about how it's not enough . I did like the idea of pawternity. She shit on this because again, it doesn't have anything to do with her. When I got my dog it would've been nice to have time off to fulkybpotty train and get them used to the house. Not saying it needs to be nationwide but if a company wants to offer it why be negative about it? Her conversations really give me the vibe that's she's "emotionally very gifted" 🙄🙄 eye rolls forever

I thought she commented on him but I couldn't remember. Omg she has some nerve commenting on how it made her job harder that Kenny wasn't there listening to her repeat stories and complaints. She shouldn't shit on men imply that they don't do anything fir their children. Like it was a month off 🙄 Also Chelsea had some health issues after the baby as well, so of course he wanted tobe by his wife's side.

You get disability most of the time, if your company is large enough and you've been with them long enough. (You usually have to be with a company 6-12 months to qualify) Depending on your tenure with the company also determines your disability pay. When I had my first, I got four weeks full pay and two weeks at 60%. With my second I got six weeks at full pay. There is no such thing as parental leave as a national standard. Some companies offer more time but it's not standard or prevalent. Most women get paid because they are literally disabled because they gave birth, not because they are adjusting to life with a new baby. I had a difficult birth with my second. I literally could not walk for weeks. That wasn't time I was "adjusting". Maternity leave and parental leave is truly tragic in this country.
My company offers new parents to take a year off unpaid which I did with both of my children. You are guaranteed your job back. In most places, you are offered 3-4 months of FMLA which is also unpaid.

In Canada, you get a year off I believe at 65% paid by the Government. Many companies will top you up to 100%. Other then the first three months, you can split it up between the parents as you like. A friend hates staying home with the kids, she takes the first three, hubby takes the remainder. I think you can overlap, like both home for the first three, then someone take the extra 6 but not sure on that.

It's a damn shame Taylor didn't offer to take a pay cut so we could keep Kenny... 😂😂😂

Canada gets 1 year at 65% with a salary cap of about 48k a year. 65% of that is under 30k that you would get before tax. It's all through employment insurance. Some companies will top up but usually only for the maternity portion of the leave. Maternity which only the birth mother can take is 17 weeks and the remaining can be taken by either the mom or dad.
Employers do need to have a comparable job for the person to return to at end of their leave but not necessarily the same job. Most jobs are contracted out as 12-16 month contracts.
I've never had kids but I don't understand how people are able and ready to go back after 6 weeks. That to me is insane. Canada is even considering extending up to 18 months but only paying the year (ie could take reduced payments to carry the amount through the entire period .

Not all companies will pay for maternity leave.... you essentially are just "guaranteed" that your job will still be there for you 6 weeks post-partum.
Our Maternity/Paternity/FMLA system is very fucked.

Does anyone remember this: it was a few months before Kenny announced Chelsea was pregnant and both Taylor and Kenny were shitting all over paternity leave. They legit spent almost an hour long segment trashing it. I found it odd that once Kenny's little boy came into the world both their tunes changed...

I think when you're not living in something you don't understand the necessity of it? I'm sure Kenny was saying how silly it was, but when he actually had a child he was like o shit what was I thinking. Kind of some of the stuff Taylor has said about divorce, then when it happened to her she was more understanding.

I remember that conversation. Certain ones stick with me and that one made me so mad. I don't have kids but I saw when my brother and sil had a baby and it was brutal. They were like walking zombies the first week from lack of sleep. How can anyone expect to go to work with a brand new infant at home?!! How hard is this to understand? You're not sleeping, you're running back and forth to the drugstore to get random stuff. Feeding, changing, hormones out of whack. If you've ever been around someone with a new baby or experienced it yourself it seems so obvious that men need to take leave as well. Just leave the woman who just gave birth at home alone with the new baby to do it all herself?? That seems crazy to me.
Offline
Just goes back to her lack of empathy. If someone has to actually experience something to gain understanding and compassion, it makes me think they are emotionally stunted. I remember the convo with Kenny about pat leave but I remember thinking they were trying to get pregnant at the time... I think Kenny was shitting on leave bc it wasn't worth the fight with tay yet. Remember how, during his last few years, he didn't stick up for stuff with her as much or as long? He seemed to pick his battles, probably bc he was EXHAUSTED from rarely winning her over.

Speaking of BBT, did you hear her take a dig at Steph this week too? Apparently TD is the only girl who actually likes sports and isn't lying about it (or "pretending to get attention from guys", in Steph's case per Taylor). She's seriously so petty, I don't know how she has any friends left...
Offline
And also, why the hell does she care if girls like sports? God forbid someone take the attention from her for 2 seconds...

That always bugged me about her. I was not the biggest Steph fan, but I'm a die hard football fan! I love football season just as much as most guys and I'm a girly girl when it comes to clothes and fashion.

It's so disappointing that a country that should be so progressive is this regressive towards women's work in/out of the home.

Does she though? She seems to blow through them pretty quickly. Is there any mention of Ed anymore? Nicole? Her college girls?
Offline
She's made it pretty clear that she has no intention of nurturing her college friendships - they need to accept her and "celebrate" her without any effort on her part. The other group (Ed, the BBQ guys, the fancy wedding group) is T2's group that she fell into when they go together right? Perhaps I'm mistaken on that - that's about the time I stopped listening regularly. Where are the model friends too?
Offline
No, fancy wedding group is through Victoria actually. She met Jordan, because Jordan did Victoria's hair and Andi was Jordan's fiancé.
I actually think she met T2 through Ed.
