My sister passed away several years ago at 22. It was very sudden and tragic. My sister was my best friend and losing her was losing part of myself. Over the years, I too have debated whether or not to go to a "medium" type person. However, I am a very skeptical person and as we all know- you just need a name or a phone number and you can find out LOTS of info on the Internet. So, I can't really put much faith into what a medium may actually be getting from beyond.
Has anyone ever gone to one of these people and know FOR SURE they knew stuff that they couldn't have easily pulled off the web? I'd be curious to know how you set up appt, did you have to give any info prior to appt?

I'm going to see Medium Thomas when he's in Atlanta next month. I gave my married name (which wouldn't be listed in any family obit) when I registered. I paid via credit card and was asked for my address and phone number. He's doing a small group event here with 12 people. It's not that expensive. I'm going out of curiosity to see it it's for real or not. I'll report back what I think after I see him.

So... not trying to expose myself as a weirdo, but it's kind of a family thing that my sisters and I (and our mother and grandmothers before us) can see ghosts. It was pretty intense up to a point a few years ago just after college, when I rented a house with a few other girls and started getting nightly visits. After about a week, I told them to leave and I haven't had visitations since. So I do believe that there are people who can see/feel spirits.
However, all that said... I can't say for sure who/what would visit me, or why they were there. I would get a general sense of what they were, if they were friendly or meant me harm, etc. Maybe these mediums experience something I don't, or maybe they actually try to make contact and that makes it different? I've had the desire to tell someone something a few times, but I'm not sure how much of that comes from me, and how much from "the supernatural".
I have observed, however, that certain living people appear to be haunted, and I am pretty sure that they do it to themselves. I still get a read on people and places I visit... some places ARE haunted. Sometimes maybe it's ghosts, but I think more often it's haunted by the bad feelings of the people who live there.
I find this so fascinating - thanks for sharing! I have always been super interested in ghosts (I live in the south and love to go on the tours and hear the stories in the small towns). I consider myself an "open-minded non believer" - I want to believe, but have never even remotely had any first hand experiences and the people I've met who say they do seem super "woo woo" to me and I don't really believe them. I always chalk it up to the power of suggestion and people seeing what they want to see. But, if I had an encounter or met someone like you who doesn't seem like they are seeking it out I could be convinced.
Haha- my grandma is one of those people. We stayed at a b&b in NC and the inn keeper told us there was a ghost of a cat in the building. Later that night in the room my grandma insisted she was feeling a cat brush on her legs, but I doubted that if no one had mentioned the "ghost cat" that she would have come to that conclusion on her own and not just blamed it on the A/C vent.
What is it like when you see a ghost? Is it how movies/tv portray it or completely different (like so many)?

That is so cool!
My Mom had her tea leaves read at a party (so the woman would have had no prior knowledge) and it was crazy what she knew/predicted. She knew their house was for sale, and that it would sell in 6 somethings, be in a new place in 3 somethings (sold in 6 weeks, in the new house in 3 months), would have to make a quick trip to the east coast in the spring (my Great Grandmother died), I would start something new in August (I moved to the States for a job, with literally a weeks notice, she was told this almost a year before), my parents would come into a bunch of money (my Grandmother was cleaning a drawer out and found a ton of stock sheets and split them between her kids). There was more, those are the ones I remember though.
We were in Atlantic City and a friend went to one of those sidewalk psychics. She knew she was a single mother, the age of her daughter, that she had had an abortion.
I wonder though if some of that stuff is just knowing how to read a person really well? Mentioning a child and seeing their face change and going with it? Sort of like the guy in Now You See Me lol

Once when I was in Savannah, GA, I had gone on a ghost tour. The tour wasn't really scary or anything. In fact, I was enjoying the architecture more than the ghost-story part if the tour. I did take some photos during the tour that were filled with those orb-things.
That night I had a horrible, very vivid nightmare. This was years ago and I can't remember lots of the details now but the next morning I was having breakfast at the hotel, telling my friends about the nightmare. The waitress was like, oh, yeah, sounds like you were haunted my pirate so-and-so. I was like what?!?! She said, yes, it happens a lot to our guests. She then proceeded to ask if I had gone on a ghost tour and I told her yes and she said that I had picked up his spirit during the tour. It freaked me out but I thought she was just trying to entertain me. To this day, not sure if I believe it.

I think some people do read others well... there are probably other people though who do sooth-say or read auras or something like that. I think it's hard to know the difference in people though. If they're doing it for money, they're probably highly motivated to tell people what they want to hear.
Omg, so creepy! My friends and I had some creepy shit happen to us after using an o-board. I won't even say the word. That article freaked me out!!!!!!!!

About three years ago, I was video recording with my iPhone my then 18 month old son being silly. He had a pillow and was spinning around and falling on the ground. I took maybe a 30 second video and when I watched it back, there was this bright blue, glowing orb that moved through the video. My husband and I couldn't figure it out so I sent the video to a ghost hunter. He analyzed it, couldn't come up with a "normal" explanation and then listened for EVP's. Sure enough, there was the voice of probably a 8-10 year old boy yelling "Dad!" playfully. It really creeped me out for a while but the ghost hunter said the color blue is very friendly and that the spirit was probably just passing through.

Ha! I can't say the 'o-board' word anymore either!! Had some really freaky stuff happen to me when I was a teenager. I will never touch one again. I've never seen anything but my mom has. Her mom could see things too.

I love reading these stories! My fave time of the year is Halloween so reading these is sort of getting me in the mood even though it's sweltering August here.
O-boards terrify me. Since I was a young child, my parents told me to stay far away from them, and I haven't so much as touched one my entire life. I know people who have had scary experiences but the one that freaked me out the most is one from an ex-bf. His sister and two of her friends were 16 and playing with one. Apparently the board spelled out that they would all die in a year. A year later all 3 of them were tragically killed in a car accident. This was also after both of the ex's parents were killed in a car accident as well. The o board didn't say anything about the parents but so beyond creepy and tragic

We go to Savannah often and I've gone on several ghost tours there (Blue Orb is the best, highly recommend it!) and they claim Savannah is the most haunted city in the country.
The closest I've come to an encounter was at the beginning of a tour that started at the Hag House (432 Abercorn). It's SUPER creepy, haunted since an event around Civil War time. A new family bought the house in the 70's but it's been empty ever since because the construction crews always get scared off by the spirits before they can finish work. This is like a $1m+ house, so for it to be empty this long says something. The daughter won't sell it because she doesn't want anyone to experience what she did- just wants to leave it locked up.
Anyway, we were standing in front of the house when the guide started talking and I got a super uneasy feeling, not like anything I've ever felt before. I normally don't get scared at all on these tours so it was really weird. But being the skeptic that I am I chalked it up to being a little tipsy and letting my imagination run away, but who knows.

For anyone into ghost/supernatural stories, the Astonishing Legends podcast is really good. Sometimes the stories they choose are a little too far into aliens and other weird stuff I'm not into, but most of the stories are very interesting.

Is there any way to post pictures?
I went on a ghost tour in Williamsburg, VA.... I swear I caught a ghost in a photo... It was at the apothecary... You can see his shape and outlines of his face....

If you upload it some where (I use Photbucket) it will give you a URL for the photo, then just open the little picture box above where you type here and stick the URL in.

I really shouldn't read this post before bed!!!!
So I don't have any personal ghost stories, but both my dad and cousin worked as police officers for the county I grew up in. The Sherrif's Department is in the same building as the county dentention center and both my dad and cousin have seen the figure of a ghost named "Shep" who haunts there. There's also been incidents as file cabinets being closed in locked offices when no one is there and my dad said the elevator would run by itself.
Here's a story that a local writer did on the ghost of Shep. It's an interesting read and I get why Shep has unfinished business.

Alright. Listening to the Best Of today. First segment up is creepiest things kids have said and done, with Lori B. Lori tells the story of her father in law dying and that whole thing. This is before she was on the show when Thomas John came on and "read" her and brought up the father in law... I had listened to that show with TJ and I really really wanted to believe in that particular reading, but alas. I had forgotten that Lori had told the story on the show before. What a sham.

Nice catch, OP! I must say, that creepy kids bit was the one of the best segments I've heard in awhile, I must have missed it the first time lol
