Read under the payola/plugola section. I am completely sold that it was the trip that did her in. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets fined too.

I guess they don't cover payola/plugola at Ithaca. I'm also now convinced that's what it was. So sad.

I totally forgot she actually went to school for broadcasting (or something along those lines) and should have known better!

After reading this I don't think there's any doubt it was the trip.
And I don't think it was any coincidence how the whole thing was orchestrated - I think the very odd "e-mail for details" instead of discussing them on air (did she ever mention the name of the resort on air? I don't think she did but I can't remember 100%) was her way of thinking she could be sneaky and get around those rules since she didn't plug the specific companies. If she did mention them by name on air, I know she didn't discuss how much she was getting paid/what she was getting for free so that definitely violates the rules.
I bet Kenny is SO glad he wasn't still there for this shit show. Would have been super awkward for her to get fired and not him. But that begs the question - if she had a permanent co-host, I wonder if this still would have happened or if they would have been concerned for their career and squashed it?

I think she did say the name of the resort on-air.

Well that's solves it, she's an idiot!

Yes she did because she talked about how her old boss at sirius and how that boss' husband runs a hotel/resort because someone asked about damage from the hurricane and she mentioned how she knows they're good.
She should have known better. That Payola/plugola stuff seems like 1st year school stuff...very basic.

Part of the trip is an hour taping of the show. So this is now an official Siriusxm event.
Something like the PA night is not an official Sirius event since the show is not being taped.
Offline
That might also be why the On demand episodes got pulled so quickly...if it had been anything else they wouldn't have fired her OVER THE WEEKEND. especially since they did all that audio work for the festival.
Offline
Do you think the trip got cleared with Sirius? Was it the trip that got her fired or not promoting it correctly on air that did her in?
This is all just speculation.
Offline
My guess - she approached her bosses and said she would be in T&C and asked if she could tape an hour. I'm not sure why she would include the show officially, maybe to get vacations for the rest of the staff also, maybe to fulfill some sort of contractual obligation about doing remotes, maybe it counts as a day of work and not PTO.
Sirius did not realize that she would be charging fans for this. In effect people are now paying to see an episode of the show being taped, so now it's officially a show and revenue is being generated. I'm sure there are all sort of laws, regulations regarding that.
Again, my guess.

I don't think she got it cleared, figured it was another Goddess getaway or stand up show meet & greet and totally ok. Sirius either heard her talking about it, or someone emailed in asking if it was legit and they freaked. As someone else said, from CCs being stolen, to injuries at the resort, they could have had a huge lawsuit on their hands.

Also, this might be why Clay and Taylor had a weird dynamic last Tuesday...Clay is smart. I bet she told him about her big surprise and he was very against it.

Yes, she mentioned the resort on air. And the name of the boat tour company.

AND MAYBE that's why Clay said he wouldn't be back. He said it in a joking way and joked about it throughout the show kinda...but maybe that's why!! Maybe he was trying to talk Taylor out of it. OMG GUYS IM IN DEEP LMAO

Good theory on why she seemed so mad at Clay last week! And now I'm wondering- were there complaints about this trip filed to Sirius? There was a pretty large public outcry over the trip and while I certainly never thought it was illegal (thought it was shitty but that's about it) other people might have known better and submitted complaints. That sure could be why such swift action was taken on Sirius's part- they might have known lawsuits could be eminent.....
Man, we are such detectives these days.....

But he does have more to fall back on? Like loosing WU probably won’t really effect his reach?

This means we will never know the extent of her f**k up. She'll sugar coat it 1000 ways.

Hi all, been lurking since the beginning, but it seems like things are pretty-well covered by the time I take a look and not sure how much I have to add. Guess this is my opportunity to meet all the other basement peeps!
IANAL, but I'm not sure to what extent the FCC payola/plugola rules apply. The FCC was founded in the 1930's, pre-internet, and the latest regulations were updated 1996, pre-satellite radio (see: )
I could see this being a gray area and she is probably working with attorneys. Also, when thinking of internet radio, consider ABC/NBC/CBS vs. HBO, a paid and private service. If JT's halftime nippleslip had happened on HBO, it would've been a tame GoT episode. Then again, as a small business owner/employer, if someone is being in PITA, thinks they are indispensable and, even worse, acts like it, those employees quickly become toxic.
Other thoughts to introduce myself:
Carly: LOVE HER
Emma: Awkward, but adorably reminds me of a bestie
Clay: boring at first, got better, then saucy/cranky at the end
Rob: found him annoying, got better towards the end. bit thirsty.
Kenny: miss him, but was getting meh towards the end
Carin: would pay extra money to go on a getaway without her (which I why I thought this getaway wasn't a bad idea, if a bit too much $$ for too little)
Katie: liked her, but for narcissistic reasons...loved to travel alone when I was single & wanted to hear more about her adventures
So 'hey girl hey' from the middle of the country!

You can bet she's trying to hustle now. If i were her i would have done a podcast YESTERDAY. We won't hear from her for months and by then it'll be too late.
THIS 💯...
the entertainment biz seems pretty cutthroat, and people have zero attention span. She needed to get that shit up ASAP. Podcast, a FB live, IG story, a periscope...something to reach out. If she doesn't give the people something by the weekend, I'm betting her days are numbered With her base. We watched how people were upset and outraged when KZ left, promising to follow him wherever and 90% of those fools on the FB page didn't even know he and Wider do a podcast.
Yes! People are going to stop caring about her real quick if she doesn't strike while the iron (& outrage) is hot. Instead... she does nothing, makes no effort.
Could her "legal reasons" for not talking be that she's exploring her options for some kind of wrongful termination lawsuit? Maybe she's pinning her financial future on dreams of a payout from SiriusXM, instead of connecting with her fans to bridge a potential new venture that would require her to, you know, actually work.

I think it would be great if Taylor could try to have a sense of humor about the whole thing and call her new podcast something like "In the Basement With Taylor"- it would be a cheeky way of acknowledging the situation and a wink to the old listeners but keeping it light. I have a feeling she takes herself too seriously for that though.
Offline
What ever her reasons, she needs to get something up ASAP. Even just a FB live video to connect with people. She doesn't have to mention anything that has happened, but can talk about the thing she is doing tonight, or whatever bits & bobs Matt has lined up for her. If she leaves it too long, people are going to get interested in something else and she'll be a second thought.

That would be fun! I think she thinks so much of herself though, she expects that people will wait around forever for her. You can already see on the Fb page people starting to discuss podcasts and some like Jenny Hutt.
