Christmas Shopping Help!

Every year I have the biggest problem shopping for Dad.
Hes a 71 year old Italian with a bad heart
Hates Golfing
Doesnt BBQ
No hobbies really except vaping (He needs to stop)
He likes the Yankees.
Ive done the PJ, lounge pants, slippers route 100 times.
AM I stuck with another set of pajamas?
He is nitpicky, takes a shit ton of showers.... I guess thats a hobby. Any advice would be great!

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

Waterproof speakers/radio for the shower?
I'm big into experience gifts. Concerts, games, plays....something like that maybe?
A restaurant gift card for a place he normally wouldn't go himself.
Along the same line as PJs and stuff, I got a Lands End robe (towel material, not fluffy) a few years gao and its my most favorite thing! They also have really nice knit blankets that are micro fleece on the other side.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

Lol the fact that he takes so many showers that people know its a "thing" made me giggle.  Last year my mom got me some really nice towels with my initials on them from https://www.cuddledown.com/. Or what about new products to use in the shower? Maybe some shower bombs? Haha idk what your dad's sense of humor is like, but I would have fun with the shower thing and make him a big basket and include some stilly things like a rubber duck and some of the more outlandish jellies/soaps from Lush.

My dad doesn't really have any hobbies either, at least not stuff that lends itself to gifting very well, but he does love snack/junk food. So every year I fill a gift bag with all of the most ridiculous food - slim jims, twinkies, basically one of everything from the gas station lol. And I always get him the HUGE plastic barrel of cheese puffs from Costco. Drives my mom nuts but he loves it.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

If he likes baseball, how about a subscription to mlb extra innings. I think that is the name of it anyway.....it grants him access to every game, every team, every day on TV. I generally do not watch sports, but my brother loves it. That way dad can stay home, in his robe vaping away while yelling at the TV all day. Old guys love yelling at stuff.

hahahaha yes, they do. and this is a great idea - if he has an Apple TV, there's an MLB subscription that sounds like the same thing as extra innings. Its $100/year, my husband has it and loves it.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

You guys are awesome! I just got so many ideas that I would never ever think of. A funny story about my dad. He loves crumbly bleu cheese. He got a pizza and wings and salad delivery and they forgot the little plastic side of crumbly blue. He called the pizzaria and made them come back JUST to deliver this little tiny cup of blue cheese.

Im actually excited to shop now. I don't feel the dread I normally do.

Awesome! I'm sure he'll love whatever you come up with.

And I feel his pain. There's a local taco shop I really like, mostly for their "special sauce". I got all the way home one night after picking up my take out only to find they had forgotten to give me the special sauce. The. Worst.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

as A dad, all I can tell you is that we just love to be noticed by our wives and children (especially daughters). Actual gifts are inconsequential in reality. We just want to be loved and noticed. Even if we act like we do not.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

My husband is obsessed with Duke Cannon soap. There a lot of different scents, but my favorite of his is the Smell's Like Productivity one.
We also are a family that drinks a lot of bourbon, and there is a buffalo trace one...

Yes! I got it for my dad & husband last year and they both love it. There's actually a bar in the shower now and it smells great. Since he's a retired Navy officer, I got my dad the "Smells Like Naval Supremacy" one- it got two 👍🏻.

I hadn't seen the buffalo trace one- I'm going to order it for my BIL!

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

My husband loves the duke cannon soap too! So funny. I was considering getting my husband a bacon of the month club. If your Dad likes any specific food (possibly even his blue cheese) there are tons of gift Services now that are like food clubs or a monthly box. Almost like a cooler Harry and David’s

Yes! The food is a great idea. I've gotten my dad gifts from https://www.goldbely.com, they have some really cool stuff.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

He sounds a lot like my grandpa. One year I got him a wooden box, about the size of a shoe box, that had an etched picture of some woods on the lid. He was so tickled about it. He kept it in his room and kept a pair of gloves and a winter hat in it. (I guess he thought those things needed a spot, and couldn’t just be left on his dresser? Who knows!) Anyway, he passed away a few years ago, and my grandma gave me back the box. I have it under my bed collecting dust, but I do have a pair of gloves and a hat in it. Sorry, this kind of turned out sappy! Not meant too. But there is an idea that might work!

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

I can’t wait till I get to the age where it would be acceptable for me to demand re-delivery for my blue cheese! Oldies are the best!

I may get the soap for my dad, he’s literally the worst to shop for.

I have the old male in the office for secret Santa. Literally know nothing about him. Do y’all think an oil diffuser with cheap oils would be a good gift? Like I think his wife would love it?

No.  Unless you are buying specifically for his wife.

1. Smoker? Good cigar
2. Drinks? Bottle of bourbon or scotch
3  sports? Tickets to a local sporting event
4. Food. All guys love to eat. Get him the hookup at a local restaurant

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

All great ideas, Karma! Glad to have you around- I have a hard time shopping for men.

This year I got my husband some of those Duluth Trading Ballroom Jeans- they are supposed to be awesome for working men. The crotch of the jeans is made differently so that I guy can squat while working without, like, crunching the shit out of his balls, I guess? So since he's has been laying a lot of new flooring in our rentals I thought he might like them. Fingers crossed..... they have really good reviews, so I hope he likes them.

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

Back to the food - a few years ago my dad went on a fancy olive oil and balsamic kick. All kinds of flavors of balsamics. I bought him a variety pack from a local olive oil store and baked a nice loaf of bread for dipping. he loved it and ended up buy a lot more from the same shop.

Disclaimer: the diamond gussetslook like plain old jeans, and are what I work in the yard in. The Duluth’s will be much nicer.

This.

Regular guys love food. If they are gym rats, they will be more selective.

Spot on! My regular guy dad is such a foodie.  I come from a farm family and we all work in the cattle/beef industry so that definitely helps! I'm so excited because my husband (who has a sexy dad bod BTW) just got a job with a high end meat packer (he will be buying the cattle) and he will get so many perks in the form of meat. We will be using that for Christmas gifts, I'm sure!

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

So what I gather from this thread is its all about the nuts when gifting to men. I think all the men in my life would be happy to receive a good bag of mixed nuts, and a garment designed to hold theirs.

Does anyone remember this commercial? My husband and I would die laughing whenever it would come on, and we still quote it often. 😂

Doh!  I get it now - Ball-Room!  I couldn't imaging why men's working jeans would be called ballroom (as in tuxedo striped?)  I'm a little slow today and hubby is a suit guy.  Carry on...

Hahaha...I'm reminded of my favorite dad joke.

What do tight jeans and a cheap hotel have in common?

No ballroom!!

Re: Christmas Shopping Help!

If your guy is a “less highlights more flannel” kind of guy (such as myself). The Ron Swanson approach is a good one to take.

1. Food
2. Sex
3. Sweaty gladiator type sports
4. Food
5. Sex
6. Hunting/fishing
7. Food
8. Sex
9. Booze (combined with food and/or sex is even better)
10. Cars

And bacon has its own category

Fixing stuff for extra points
