TLC TV channel

When was the last time that you actually learned something from this channel?

It is like the “freak” channel.

Things I have learned:

1. Fertility treatments often make for waaaaaaay to many kids at once.

2. Duggars, they are really screwing up traffic 20 years from now.

3. Kate Gosselin is still a raging bitch

4. Calling all little people (or so it seems)- though I like the lady from the little couple. She is cool

5. If you order a bride half your age from another country, and it’s your 3rd marriage. 90 days ain’t gonna fix it.  Move on

6. For the love of Pete, if your husband has four additional wives, do not complain when you do not get enough attention

8.  Overweight/underweight is not anything out of the ordinary. I am glad that you are comfortable with yourself. But, in all actuality you are no different than the rest of us.

9.  Did I mention Kate gosselin?

10.  Say yes to the dress......need I say more?

My husband is obsessed with 90 day. He always wants me to watch it with him. I’d rather watch other stuff. It’s such a train wreck!

My girls were watching it last night. I had to get up and shower because I felt so gross

Re: TLC TV channel

I think it's so gross, but fascinating, too. I work in a resort town with lots of eastern Europeans who come to work for the summer. So marriages for green cards are very common amongst people I know. I've even been "proposed to" more than once. 🤷‍♀️

Let me add one more:

It’s more common than you think to be pregnant and not know it.

I realize that every pregnancy is different, but this still blows my mind.

Really? That is so interesting

I do not have that type of plumbing, so I have no idea how you could be carrying a little one and not know it?!?!

That blows my mind, too- I know it's possible but I can't imagine it! I had morning sickness already by 6 weeks in and started to show by 4 months along (I have the shortest waist ever, my babies had no where to go but out....waaaay out, lol)

Re: TLC TV channel

Try and keep it short! My Mom was training for the Olympics (equestrian) and her period was really screwed up because she was tiny. The morning before I was born my uncle teased her she was getting a pot belly 😂

That night, my Dad (they were teens, not married) was playing hockey and my Grabdmother was in another room at the arena doing an obiedeience class, my Mom going back and forth between the two. She wound up going home because she didn’t feel well. Middle of the night, my aunt wakes up my Grandmothers that my Mom is crying in pain. My Grandmother (a nurse) takes her to the hospital assuming it’s her appendix....nope! Call my Dad the next morning and tell him to get to the hospital. He comes, leaves, tells his parents, comes back with them, leaves, comes back with a ring, they got married a week later. Still that crazy annoying couple that takes Sunday drives and hold hands everywhere ♥️ My Grabdmother says it would have happened anyways, I just got them to hurry up lol

FKF I am howling reading this! What an incredible story.

Having been pregnant a few times I have never understood how that could happen 😂😂

Re: TLC TV channel

To top it, my moms best friend was really sick during her first pregnancy and spent most of her second on bed rest. 5 ultrasounds, has the baby and something is wrong, keeps telling the Dr something isn’t right. He says she’s ok, just after birth (something along those lines), she swears something happens, sure enough another baby comes out! They figure one was wrapped around the other and never picked it up. They’re in their 20s now, so I’m sure technology has come a long way!

I'm unashamedly a fan of 90 Day Fiancé. 😝😝. I find it so fascinating how people can be SO desperado for love/a spouse that they overlook very obvious signs that they are being used. Conversely, I'm blown away by the lengths some of the foreigners will go to for that green card. Some of the Americans are straight up nasty AF, and I can't imagine anyone having to share the same bed with them. 🤢🤢🤢.

Re: TLC TV channel

Uggggg the 48 yo guy who bought the 24yo Thailand woman. Such a creeper. Skipped out on her dowery, no job, married multiple times, and alcoholic. Hesitant to buy a $300 wedding dress,, drives a camouflage hummer, lives in an abandoned fire house because his buddy owns it and it’s rent free. Bonus, terrible adult children, one of which is older than the bride to be.

Cringe.......

Re: TLC TV channel

I have a client who did that, he's actually on his second mail order bride. Had kids with the first, she met another guy and took off. Second time, stuff kept going wrong with woman he was meeting, the one he finally did bring over, I don't think he ever actually met in person. Its awful, he's such a little creeper though I felt really bad for the woman showing up

Re: TLC TV channel

The whole mail order bride thing disgusts me- I had three clients when I was working at the domestic violence shelter that were women who were brought over here from other countries by men who basically ordered them in this way. One was promised that he would bring her here so she could become a nurse- where she was from she was in dire poverty, and he promised her the world once she came to America. Instead, all three of them were horribly abused- physically, sexually, financially, you name it. None of them spoke English well, they were penniless and terrified, it was awful....

On a happy note, though- I'm still in contact with one of them, a woman from Egypt. We helped her with her divorce, she did go on to school to become a nurse, and is very happy with full custody of her two children. So there was one good outcome for these women!

Re: TLC TV channel

That's amazing that she was able to come through! It really is a form of slavery, or sex trafficking. They are brought here, no no one, new language, new ways of living, its all so terrifying

Re: TLC TV channel

That is absolutely horrendous. I get weird if my kid drives to the other side of town. I could not imagine sending her off to do such a thing.

Re: TLC TV channel

I grew up in a very small mountain town, 💯% fit the stereotypes - no ethnic, racial, or religious diversity, everyone gets married to someone from high school, moves to a house a few miles from their parents, and all outsiders are referred to as flatlanders. (Luckily for me, my parents were NJ transplants who were very open minded and normal)

One day, a new kid arrives at school - 6 foot 6, think Russian accent, thin as a rail and smart as a whip.
One of the old town womanizers got himself a mail order bride with a 15 year old boy attached. That would have been enough to get the town talking, but this gentleman already had 7 Kids from two different mothers in town, none of which associated with him. I’m not sure what the bride was anticipating, but I’m pretty sure she didn’t think her accommodations would be a run down trailer from the 1970’s that barely had access to the basic creature comforts. Shockingly they ended up getting divorced just a few years later after she became naturalized 🙄

And, not for nothing, the gentleman was a Rhodes scholar who made his millions, burned through it all, and still lives in squalor.

I think people are still talking about it!

The kid (who is now 32) ended up fitting in just fine, went to Dartmouth, became a US citizen,  and is some insanely brilliant computer engineer for a big company in California. So happy ending, I guess?

Re: TLC TV channel

One of my husbands “friends” was talking about how he’s on like a Russian bride website and that this chick is soooo cool and pretty and everything, and that he wants to bring her here bc she wouldn’t be like the girls around here, who just want to take his money, she’d be happy with a Honda. I was like I can’t even with him. Such a disaster.

Re: TLC TV channel

Karma approved : Russian kid who kicks ass and takes care of business.

Karma disapproved: delusional men who think that these chicks are actually into them.

It really is insane, isn't it? It made me realize how strong and enticing the "American Dream" is for people in other countries. These poor women and children literally come here expecting the streets to be paved in gold and that their lives are going to be saved by coming to America. Only to be met with absolute shit, horror, and abuse. I understand why these women take the chance and then are just so devastated when they have been duped. I'm so happy for the woman and her son- it really worked out for them!
