Not sure if this pic will post, but it looks like Katie is involved with the studio D&R rent out.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

Eh, I’ll probably give it a try. I’m alone a lot and love to have podcasts/Sirius on demand playing as I do things around the apartment. This week has been brutal being off from work but also no new content out for more of the shows I listen to.

As strange as this sounds, I actually like the commercial reads podcasters do. The Ben and Ashley I. “Almost Famous” podcast cracks me up with how ridiculous the segues are. And they make them fun. Those were never Taylor’s strength, but I do hope she gets to that point where this could be free, but supported by commercials.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

I'm out, I'm afraid.  I'll check in here periodically to see how it's going but does she really have the stamina and fortitude to make this last?  I hope for her sake, she does.  Keep us posted!

Wow I had know idea dnr had a show lol sounds like they might be the ones with the smart idea with the studio rental idea!
I’ll be listening to Taylor for sure 6.95 a month is nothing. You guys can listen to the free stuff once a week tho.
I have a feeling you all will be paying to listen. How will you discuss her?

Re: Taylor's New Gig

I will 100% not. I bet you 6.95 that this fails in 6 months. She'll do an IG story in her plaid shirt saying shes sorry but she can't do it anymore. Have fun listening to her rehash the same stories over again. And put the new Sirius screwed her over story in rotation.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

She is only charging because of her inability to gain sponsorships. That is what I pay for Sirius monthly. She should  be doing at least the first month free.  If she gets 1000 fans willing to subscribe, and she keeps $5 of the $6.95, that is $5000 a month before taxes. This does not even including paying Matt, unless he continues to work for free. She is such a liar saying she did not set the price. So you had no ability to dictate your own salary by working for yourself?

You can listen to the best of for free with commercials.

Ugh. The cranky Cincella rears it’s ugly head. Forget to take your meds today? We will discuss her just like we have been. We don’t need to know about her inlaws, roids, virgin marrying parents, or family members in Harvard anymore. I believe most of us have moved on. I don’t care to listen, just wanted to see what she would come up with next. And boy it’s a doozy.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

A once per week hour long podcast is more than enough for me. I wouldn't pay 99 cents to listen to the same stuff she's been talking about for 8 years.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

I'm curious about her feeling like the timing of her departure from Sirius after 11 years was some kind of sign and perfect timing because she was ready to move on to bigger/better things and she's now just basically recreating the same show, minus an hour.. Maybe if she was doing something COMPLETELY different, it'd make sense.

Matt skeeves me out, I was hoping she was going to announce that she made some changes to her "team" and cut him loose.

It will be interesting to see how willing all these former co-hosts are to jump into a regular rotation. Her promises of Kenny having any kind of ongoing involvement is laughable. I would sure as hell be surprised if The Taylor Strecker Show lasts more than a few months.

Prediction:

First week she'll do 5 episodes. Second week it'll be 3-4 and then gradually decrease to fewer episodes over a course of a few more weeks with lame excuses like her being sick, not having a co-host scheduled, important meetings, lawyers.

Also. When announcing the start of your new show....for the love of fucking God, have a firm date!!!!

Really, this new show's name should be "The Epitome of Bethos with Taylor Strecker".

I won’t. I wouldn’t pay anything. I’ve already found other stuff to listen to.

Yay, Cindy’s back! 🙌🏻

In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s plenty of non-Tay threads here. And since you can’t seem to stay away, I’m sure you’ll be back to tell us alllll about how great the new show is. How about you play a little game where you take a shot (of anything, espresso, vodka) every time she mentions the Epstein’s and let us know how you feel after.

Karma I’m glad you’re back! I was wondering where you’d disappeared to 😊

Re: Taylor's New Gig

I've been lurking since the show was cancelled but felt motivated to join after today's announcement.

A subscription only "radio" show that can't be downloaded or streamed on an app (not a website) is a terrible idea.  Like others have said, podcasts are the future; radio is dying.  I am guessing that they went with the subscription only show because Taylor is desperate for money.  I listen to tons of podcasts; all are free, all have sponsors, and the hosts of probably 90% of them quit their 9 to 5s within a year of launching because revenue from the podcast became sufficient for them to live on.  However, it takes time to build up an audience and get bigger bucks for ads.  I think Taylor is too impatient and is looking for an easy way to make money.  I wouldn't be surprised if, after a few months of having a steady number of subscribers to justify bigger or more lucrative advertisers than a brand new podcast could garner, the show changes to a free podcast.  Basically, I think she's using the subscribers to cushion her through her business's growth period where she wouldn't otherwise be generating any money, and then she will have a sudden change of heart and make the show free for everyone.  I don't necessarily knock her for needing money immediately (I couldn't afford to work for free for months either) but it's short sighted if she really thinks this will work long term and if she wants to grow her audience and not alienate fans.  I also don't know how she'll leverage a subscription only "radio" website show into future TV hosting gigs...she's intentionally limiting her audience!

This is purely speculation, but as a lawyer who does some employment work I'm curious about why she needs this money.  If anyone has a non-compete clause, they are getting paid something extra for agreeing to not work in their field for a specific period of time after the separate from employment.  It only makes sense: no one will voluntarily agree to not work for X months/years without getting compensation on the front end to make up for that lost employment.  It's possible that she's run through that money over the past ten weeks, but I also think that unless her firing was 100% due to her bad behavior (which, in reality, is hard to prove), Sirius probably gave her a severance check so that she wouldn't sue or threaten to sue them.  Even if totally baseless, a lot of companies will proactively pay fired employees to avoid expensive litigation in the future.  I get that living in NYC is expensive, but that would also factor into how much severance she could get.

Last point...did anyone else catch how she said this would basically be the same as WUWT, but when she first spoke out about getting fired from Sirius she said she needed a change after doing the same thing for 11 years.  The same segments with the same cohosts (I do LOVE kenny and carly) is not a change.  She's just not original or creative to make this different and great.

Anyway, just my rambling thoughts while I avoid getting ready for work tomorrow.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

I’m really sick of the FB page saying just give up a Starbucks and it pays for it. Am I the only one that doesn’t buy coffee?? Mamma makes that shit at home, I need caffeine immediately upon waking up!

But, if the website is not blocked at work, I’ll probably subscribe and see how it goes, I’ll report back. Also, $7 may be worth it to never hear about hello fresh, or Casper, or a ripe off of a wine club 🤷🏼‍♀️. She does  make a point about if you pay you shouldn’t have to listen to sponsorships and Sirius has so many. But then y’all make a point how she’s using her listeners to pay her salary.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

All the different “cost of a Starbucks” charges add up quickly (and I don’t buy coffee either). I’m not getting rid of XM anytime soon. Between the car and on demand, my husband and I listen constantly. We have Netflix and Hulu since we cut the cord from cable. There is SO MUCH content on Hulu for $7.99/month. $6.95 for access to ONE  radio show? I can’t justify that. The Starbucks thing is what people who get scammed into paying too much for something say.

Re: Taylor's New Gig

Yeah, I think a better solution would have been for D&R to hire Tay to do a morning show for them since they already have a base and probably commercial sponsors.   It would increase the listener base for both D&R and T.   I'm sure one of the two were way too greedy to agree to it though.  I'm guessing they low balled T to the point she would have had to get another job to support herself.  And we know there's no way she'd do that.  Heaven forbid the girl work more than a few hours a day.

I'm irrationally annoyed by this. She's had close to 3 months off, she couldn't have taken a bit of time to fix up her website and be ready with a firm date for the launch of this??? She's just a disaster and if she can't get it togeather to just announce the show, how is she ever going to pull this off?

I wonder how much team (and who is this team??? like is there more then Matt?? She needs a better recruiter if she has more!) decision there was in this? Almost anything (including a daily FB live) I think would bring her a netter audience then this. I hope I'm wrong and she can make a go of it, I just don't see it happening. I can't imagine paying for a random show a friend recommends to me? Her once a week best of are going to have to be amazing!

Re: Taylor's New Gig

If you go to her webpage now it says it's "Coming Soon."  So it's just being updated today.  Wouldn't it be more professional to have updated it before her announcement and have the site off line until January 1 so that it could have been launched that day?  I don't know much about websites, so I could be way off.

Oh good, so it's not just me.  The funny thing is I wasn't even going to her page, I just have this one book marked next to it and hit the wrong link.  When I saw that I was like, you've got to be kidding me."

I liked her show, and miss it at times, but I just can't see myself going to a webpage to listen to a specific show when there are apps for podcasts instead.  I'd be even more likely to pay for a show/donate though iTunes or Patreon then have my credit card linked to a webpage to listen to.  If I'm understanding that is how it works, it just seems off to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Better to have it offline/"coming soon" than with outdated info, and it would have been great for her "re-branding" to launch a website facelift the day of the announcement. But what do I know, I'm just a troll in a basement.
