OMG DA that is a find!
FKF I agree, the logo is cute! She should start promoting on there like now-ish? ESP if sheâs on Emmaâs pod next week!

Don't be silly, you don't prep before you announce, this way people stay engaged waiting for info!

Out of all my friends Iâm the only one who listens to Podcasts and WUWT (RIP) Iâm going to try it out so I will report back! My reasoning is out of everything I listen to nothing ended up replacing Taylor. I flew through Serial, Dirty John, Missing Maura Murray, I like Straight Up with Stassi but only certain guests, same with Adderall and Compliments, Be Here for a While, Juicy Scoop, Bitch Bible, YoungHouse Love, What What Crappens, Lady Gang etc. for me even when Taylor was retelling a story it was better then a boring episode of any of the above. I like having something besides music for my commute and working out and the others once a week podcasts werenât enough for me especially if it was an episode or topic i wasnât into.
Hereâs to hoping it sticks!
Also they said on her Instagram video announcement eventually her and DNR would be merging so you would get both they just needed to update the technology. Those guys are probably going to create a spin off company from Sirius now that they also have Taylor under their âbannerâ or w/e you want to call it and probably start picking up other talent. Iâve noticed a lot of podcasters are switching companies, leaving PodcastOne (Jackie Schmimel comes to mind) I bet they are going to try a build a business that competes with radio and podcasts, live at certain times and then downloadable under the podcast app for subscribers after it airs. If they arenât they should hire me as the VP of Business Development!

Thatâs a good point, Nicki! I hope she can make a go of it, and maybe being on the ground floor of this is gonna be awesome for her!

She needs to do the first few weeks free to get some traction.
I totally think she should start out with a free week/month, but won't because she knows lots of people would just want to hear about what happened with Sirius and would cancel before having to pay. That's what I would do, anyway. I suppose she could just delay that conversation until the free period is up...
I'm currently just keeping my fingers crossed that someone pays the $7 and fills us in! =)

I wouldnât pay $1.00 for a yearâs worth of content from her. I refuse to reward and encourage lazy and half assed behavior from anyone. I finally got around to deleting her IG because just seeing her face brought about a massive negative visceral reaction!!
I think you're putting too much thought into her if she's creating a visceral reaction. I'd say it's time to completely move on from her and here if it's affecting you so much. sorry but there's more to life....Â

I was wondering if I was being too harsh at balking at paying for a radio stream, so I've asked a few people I know if this seemed like a good deal or not. One of my friends- who used to work in radio- said no, that radio is a dying technology and this is not the smartest move. Another friend said it's greedy and stupid to try to rebuild a career on subscriptions because people who don't know her won't drop cash to tune in. Hell I am a listener and I hesitate to subscribe- she is charging almost as much as I pay for Hulu and Netflix and look how much monthly content I get for that price, compared to a 2 hour daily radio show. It's not that it's a lot of money in the grand scheme ( please stop with the Starbucks analogies....I can't with that) but compared to other services I pay for it feels like a rip off. So, I personally don't feel like it's worth it to pay for the exact same show I already listened to, but shorter and with differently named identical segments. I'm just really disappointed in her for going this route- she would make more money from a sponsored podcast. You know her GF has all the technology needed to pull one off.....

As for people saying "what you expect her to work for free?" Well, yeah, frankly I do. That's often how it works in creative fields. You have to prove yourself before people are going to pay for your work- many successful podcasters did do it for free until they proved themselves to sponsors. If she needs money she can go get a job, just like everyone else, while she rebuilds the entertainment business. But she doesn't want to do that because she is lazy and wants quick success. Which I get but, dude, this isn't the way to get this done.Â

Thatâs totally true, get a job while you build this. Iâm sure Matt can get her some hosting gigs, would also help her promote.

If all she has to attract listeners is her Sirius drama, that doesn't bode well for her career. Sorry to say it, but she absolutely will not gain subscribers from this. She might generate cash from WUWT listeners who are willing to pay, but a Patreon with a free podcast would be a much better way to grow a brand. I think the hosted-internet-radio-show might be like DVD audio... has its merits, but it's gone before anybody noticed because that's just not how most people listen anymore.
I totally agree. Free podcast + paid Patreon membership for extra content would be much better and more likely to gain new listeners. Using her own website and paid only will not expand her fan base at all!!

I think she really really wants this new âtechnologyâ to be the new Sirius. I mean she came in when Sirius was nothing and look how itâs grown. I get that, and maybe she wants to be their version of Howard. Whatever. But itâs really dumb to pigeon hole herself in this, like how are people going to find her website to listen? I just donât understand the rationale for going this route. All those Harvard and BC grads she hangs out with and none of them can convince her this route wonât expand her base?

Knowing how much Taylor likes to call in sick and take vacation, I don't see this new gig lasting. For example, when she does the next Taylor Strecker IRL on a Sunday night, there's no way she's doing a live broadcast the next morning. If people are paying just for her new program, they're not going to be happy unless it's everyday.

How did Sirius start? Was it the free trials there is now? I think it's a brilliant marketing strategy, wondering if that's how they've always done it?

Exactly. This is NOT going to be Sirius 2.0- she got lucky as hell to have the job she had and she has learned nothing from losing it. She still thinks you can live it up all fancy in NYC for 2 hours of work a day. THAT is what pisses me off. She still wants money for little work, and I'm supposed to pay her.Â

I think Sirius started because Howard wanted to say whatever he wanted to without repercussion. But Iâm not sure if they had free trials at first, only because cars werenât equipped with the technology at the very beginning, so you would need to invest in a radio to listen? I do know that they offered life time memberships at one point for cheap!

Yeah, Sirius was started for Howard Stern- I have no idea if they gave deals or whatnot, just one day my husband was like hey I signed us up for Sirius Radio and installed the box into my car, lol. But it was game changing for me to have it, I still love Sirius. I'll never get rid of it.Â

Yeah, I knew about Howard, just wondering how they went about getting subscribers. He was a huge name though and would have broiyght a ton from Terrestrial with him, it's not like Taylor has that pulll. I wonder if they're talking to others?
Offline
I don't think that's the direction they would be going through, surely they would have her broadcasting for free (even if they were paying her) to bring in listeners. The more I think about this, it was her only choice.

Even Kenny, who has a pretty hefty resume and career started a free weekly podcast. I'll probably subscribe for at least a little bit. I also think starting free would have been a better decision. Heck, Stassi's and Anna Farris' podcasts are both free and they're celebrities.

True that. 'Course they both have other paying gigs so I suppose they can both afford to do free content with just ad support.Â

as much as she talks about wine she could probably get a wine sponsor like wink wine pretty quickly. ugh, i was so hoping for a free podcast. she just doesn't want to try very hard and that's going to ruin her.
