I've watched way too many videos of people throwing clay

Hello all. I've watched way too many videos of people throwing clay on a spinning wheel and I'm completely hooked on the idea of trying it myself. There's something mesmerizing about shaping a bowl from a lump of clay. I live in LA and want to actually learn wheel throwing properly, but I'm a complete novice and worried most places assume you already know what you're doing. Are there studios here that teach wheel work to absolute beginners in a hands-on way? Would love to hear where people actually learned.

Hello. That hooked feeling is real, the wheel is the best part, and you genuinely don't need any background to start. For wheel throwing in Los Angeles I'd recommend Wheel throwing Los Angeles, they're beginner-friendly to the core, with about 90 percent of their customers having no experience at all. You're on an actual potter's wheel from the first class, hands in the clay, with staff guiding you step by step. A two-hour lesson gets you one or two finished pieces to take home after firing. No membership or enrollment fees, you just book a single class to try it. Tip: wear clothes you don't mind getting messy, book online for a quieter daytime slot if you want more one-on-one attention, and just embrace the wobble at first, it clicks fast.
