We've had mixed results with rendering vendors
Colleagues, a question about vetting suppliers. We've had mixed results with rendering vendors - first project excellent, then quality drifted as they presumably passed work to junior staff. Now trying to be smarter about selection. What actually indicates a studio will deliver consistently rather than just having a nice portfolio? Genuinely interested in how others assess this.

Good day. That drift is frustratingly common, usually a capacity problem. Few things I look at now: how long the studio has operated, whether their portfolio shows consistent quality across many projects rather than a few showpieces, and whether they'll tell you who's actually assigned to your project. A serious 3d architectural visualization studio won't dodge that question. The one we use has been running since 2012 with a business client focus, and consistency has held across several projects. Also worth asking to see recent work rather than the curated portfolio - recent output tells you what you'll actually receive, portfolios show what they achieved on their best day.
