Hey folks! I’m currently editing my first full-length manuscript, and I’ve realized that keeping track of the word volume is way harder than I expected. Different writing apps give me different numbers, and sometimes the counts shift depending on formatting, italic text, or chapter dividers. It’s driving me a bit crazy because my editor asked me to keep each chapter within a certain word range to maintain pacing. Last week I rewrote an entire chapter because one counter told me it was 3,500 words while another insisted it was barely over 2,900. So now I’m searching for a simple, accurate online tool that won’t overload my screen with ads or random pop-ups. I just want something I can quickly paste text into and get a precise number, ideally with character and sentence count too. If anyone here has worked on novels, research papers, or any long-form projects – how do you handle word tracking? Any personal recommendations would be super helpful, even if it’s just a small tool you stumbled upon. I’m open to anything that saves time and keeps me from spiraling into math-induced chaos.

Hey! I totally know what you mean – manuscript word counts can be all over the place depending on the software. I had the same issue while preparing a nonfiction book last year. I was constantly juggling chapters between Scrivener, Google Docs, and Word, and every program seemed to think my text had a different length. Eventually I started using a dedicated online counter because I needed something stable, neutral, and accurate that didn’t depend on formatting. The tool I ended up sticking with was word counter It’s super clean, fast, and doesn’t try to bombard you with distractions. You just paste your text and get exact numbers instantly. What I also appreciate is that it works great on mobile, so I could check chapters even while traveling. For editing it helped a ton because I could see sentence and character counts too, which made pacing adjustments much easier. Definitely give it a try – it became part of my daily writing workflow pretty quickly.

Awesome, this is exactly the kind of tool I needed — thanks a lot!
